Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife's game activities are sampled by operators

Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife hosted a second trade educational in March 2017 for a selected group of operators from the UK to Durban, KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) with South African Airways as partner airline. Participants were Abbey Simkiss - Visions Holiday Group, Hilary Davenport - Distinctive Africa, Bill Cooper - RWH Travel Limited / Ramblers Walking Holidays, Journalist Katie McGonagle, and the trip was led by Natalie de la Porte - AMG / EKW Representative in the UK.

The aim was to get UK exposure and build knowledge of the Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife reserves and properties. A busy one-week itinerary included the opportunity to explore a range of the adventure activities Ezemvelo offers in KZN, including walking in the uKhahlamba-Drakensberg Park World Heritage Site, spotting rhino, elephant and other game at on safari in Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Park, and exploring the rugged landscape on foot, while on the look-out for plains game and birds in the Ithala Game Reserve.

The trip also included one night at Isibindi Zulu Lodge, in the KZN Battlefields area, and a brief visit to the famous Anglo-Zulu battlefields sites at Rorke’s Drift and Isandlwana – no trip to KZN is complete without a historical perspective!

The trip also included Ntshondwe Resort in Ithlala Game Reserve – the perfect location to spotting unique game such as the eland and mountain rhebuck. Two nights at Hilltop Resort in Hluhluwe- Imfolozi Park, the ideal base for guided walking safaris and game drives, in search of the famous Big-Five.

Ithala Game Reserve is a haven for zebra, eland and other plains game, including a number of bird species.

Hilary Davenport from Distinctive Africa said about Giant’s Castle: “The walk to the Main Caves is well worth it and one of the highlights of the week. The scenery that envelopes Giant’s Castle took my breath away on more than one occasion. Had I stayed longer, I would definitely have explored the other walking trails and the vulture hide.” She added: “[Ithala is] a spectacular reserve with superior scenery, unsurpassed landscape and endless rolling horizon. A very special place with a strong diversity of flora and vegetation, as well as fantastic game spotting opportunities.

Natalie from Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife has this advice: "The ideal holiday to this area would spend a recommend three nights at each of the properties, since there are so much to see and do in the area and especially in the Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife areas."

Thank you to our sponsors South African Airways, Isibindi Zulu Lodge and Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife.
