Durban’s lesser known gems

When asked about Durban, many people are only vaguely aware of South Africa’s ‘other’ coastal city. In the tourism industry, we thing mainly about Indaba, the tourism conference hosted at the Durban ICC in May each year. Some are aware that Durban has the busiest container port in Africa.

While Cape Town stole the spotlight as the most popular tourist city in South Africa, Durban has been undergoing a major transformation. Not only does it have sandy beaches, warm water and ample sunshine, it also has breathtaking original Art Deco architecture examples to rival the best of Miami and a unique cultural heritage. Add lots of adventure activities such as the Guinness Record’s ‘World’s Tallest Swing’ at Moses Mabidha Stadium, the world’s fourth largest aquarium, uShaka Marine World, that looks like an underwater wreck... Durbs really has enough to keep visitors busy for many days.
